Crown Zellerbach Trail Hike

Hike Distance: 7.3 miles

Elevation Gain: 308 feet

The best intentions just didn’t work out for us to go see the wildflowers in the eastern gorge this weekend.  Yesterday, we laid our dog Misty to rest after the yearly vet visit indicated neurological issues that would continue to cause increased suffering with time.  Compassion and caring dictated this difficult decision, and she is now at peace.

We’ve been in no mood to get out for a lengthy drive and/or hike, so we went to the Crown Zellerbach trail to get some fresh air and begin the healing process.  I dedicate this hike to a valued member of our family that we will miss forever, Misty.

Moulton Trail Loop Hike & Beyond

Hike Distance: 9.0 miles

Elevation Gain: 1146 feet

Today was the warmest day of the year, reaching 70 deg. in Vancouver, WA., and with a clear blue sky!  I wanted to visit some waterfalls and also get some view of any volcanoe, so I headed out to do this nice loop.  Since I started this loop on the closed logging road there were no people to be seen for half the hike.  I also saw two deer along this section of the hike.  Once I joined up with the Bells Mt. trail there were plenty more hikers, as was expected on this perfect weather day.  The Lewis River was raging and all the water features were enjoyed along the Murphy Grade section of the trail.  I was also fortunate to have met, and stopped to talk with, many very nice hikers on the back end of this loop.  It was a bit too crowded for me in the area of the high bridge to the parking area along Lucia Falls Rd. so I tried not to linger here beyond taking some pictures.  An absolutely fantastic day to get out and enjoy nature!

Lacamas Creek Park Hike

Hike Distance: 6.5 miles

Elevation Gain: 962 feet

It was a great day for a hike around Lacamas Creek Park.  It was a cloudy and cool day with a storm that materialized late in the hike, but I was prepared for the short lived rain.  I checked out the natural area to see the progress of blooms for the lilies.  I was gratified to see that the Avalanche Lilies were blooming in profusion in a few forested areas.  Unfortunately, the Camas flower showed early blooms but most were still in bud form.  There is going to be quite the carpet of Camas blooms in the coming weeks that must be seen!

Burnt Bridge Creek Trail Hike from NE 19th Circle to Devine Rd.

Hike Distance: 5.0 miles

Elevation Gain: 257 feet

A nice little stroll to get out in the fresh air.  A cloudy day with one downpour, but I was well prepared.  I’ve been taking it easy to try and let my ankle heal but it’s not bee cooperating.  I’ve been going to the physical therapist but the diagnoses of tendonitis implies the recovery will be long.  That said, we’ll be visiting the Dalles Mt. Ranch again this weekend to see the blooming flowers, and it should be an awesome show!

Burnt Bridge Creek Trail Hike

Hike Distance: 4.2 miles

Elevation Gain: 225 feet

A nice leisurely hike in the fresh air.  A beautiful day to take pictures with all the cumulus clouds in the sky.  A thunderstorm narrowly missed where I was but loved hearing the roaring boom.  I found a large grassy area with a nice weeping willow that was near the creek.  Plenty of Trillium and other flowers for picture taking.
