In an effort to escape the heat and smoke we headed out to the Oregon coast. We knew it would be crowded, but the fire in the Columbia River Gorge, and the new fire in Indian Heaven Wilderness made it an easy decision to go somewhere to escape the heat and wildfires.
The parking area was full, so we had to park along the road. We went out to the beach and decided to visit the Peter Ireland on the way back, after seeing the enormous crowds.
The plan was to hike south and meet up with a previous hike we had done. After a short distance, we entered the beach area where vehicles were allowed. The typical beach visitor didn’t venture into this area, and we found the walk to be very enjoyable. Sure, there were vehicles parked along the beach, with people next to them, but not many ventured to the shoreline where we were. We had to hike about four miles south to meet up with our previous hike. The temperature along the beach was very pleasant as there was also a nice continuous breeze during the hike.
On our return to the Peter Ireland, we took a few pictures. We didn’t stay long because the crowd was still large. We stopped off at a Subway in Astoria before driving home. A great day and definitely worth the long drive! 🙂
