Silver Falls State Park Backcountry Hike

Hike Distance: 9.4 miles      Yearly Hike Distance: 1237.7 miles

Elevation Gain: 848 feet      Yearly Elevation Gain: 129929 feet

We needed to babysit the grandkids tonight, so we headed south to Silver Falls State Park, which is closer to where we needed to be at night.  It was fantastic weather and made the hike very pleasant.

We started at the Howard Creek Horse Camp, and then hiked west toward the park campground.  We hiked around a nature trail near the campground and then headed south.  In the vicinity of the Hwy 214 parking area we found a new trail, at least for us.  It is called the Catamount Trail.  We met some women on this trail that said it was fairly new!  We were going to hike the entire 3.5 mile length but concluded we would be late for babysitting.  So, we turned around and headed back to Howard Horse Camp.

It was a fantastic day, with nice temperatures but a huge amount of smoke from the fires.  Still, a great day!
