Little Mountain Park Trails Hike

Hike Distance: 4.4 miles      Yearly Hike Distance: 1410 miles

Elevation Gain: 637 feet      Yearly Elevation Gain: 150086 feet

This is the first day of a long weekend in the Mt. Vernon, WA area.  Since it took so long to drive up here, we decided to stay in the vicinity of Mt. Vernon.  It was a blustery day and a very late start.

We started at the E. James Street gate, on the southern boundary of the park.  The first area we went to is called the Eagle Rock Challenge Course.  This obstacle course is located in the trees, and is quite extensive.  It ‘s quite impressive but not our cup of tea.

The trail system is quite gnarly on the south side of the park.  Most of the trails are multi-use, but we ascended to the summit using mostly the hiker-only trails.  At first we wanted to ascend to the summit using the trails below the ridge, but they were too steep and labled as dangerous.  However, th Ridge Trail made it much more easy to gain the summit and avoid the cliffs.

Once near the summit we saw the cell tower, and just beyond it going north is a gazebo like structure with a fantastic view of the valley and ocean.  There is also plenty of parking if you want to drive there.

We looked at our watches and realized we had 1.5 hours to get down before it was dark.  We decided to take the road down and then access the Upper Surfer’s way trail, which led to the Down South trail, which led to our car.

This is a fantastic little park with plenty of trails.  It will be on our list to see again!
