What a fantastic day in the pouring rain! Cold and wet made for an exhilarating day.
I roamed around the Frenchmen’t Bar area and spent quite a bit of time along the Columbia River, and observing the huge bird population that spends the winter in this area. The driving rain lasted for more than half the hike and created a beautiful surreal view of the river. I couldn’t get enough of the views.
The thousands of birds swirling around the Frenchmen’t Bar area was impressive! They were flying in formation from every direction and landing in the fields. The noise was deafening at several times, but I was caught up in the visual ballet. There were other people in the area that were also enjoying this. Unfortunately, the sounds of shotguns was going off on both sides of the river. It saddens me to think people get enjoyment out of watching them drop from the sky. 😦 Thankfully, I didn’t see any ducks drop from the sky during this hike.
The rain stopped by the end of the hike and the clouds had cleared out in the west. It made for a very nice end to the day!
