Beacon Rock State Park Hike

Hike Distance: 9.1 miles      Yearly Hike Distance: 1601.8 miles

Elevation Gain: 1897 feet      Yearly Elevation Gain: 1754830 feet

A cool and windy day with no rain.  It was a beautiful hike in Beacon Rock State Park!

We parked at the equestrian TH and headed up the road.  We made a beeline for the Hamilton Mt. Saddle and then stopped to enjoy the spectacular views of the mountains and  Columbia River Gorge.  There was solid snow at about the 3000 foot level, but not where we were.

Next, we head from the saddle to the back of the park and then wound down the switchbacks to the Upper Hardy Creek trail.  From here we just headed back to the equestrian TH.  We saw some very small patches of snow at the 2000 foot level, which wasn’t expected.

Overall, an excellent day in a beautiful park!

Klickitat River Trail Hike

Hike Distance: 10.0 miles      Yearly Hike Distance: 1592.7 miles

Elevation Gain: 522 feet      Yearly Elevation Gain: 171303 feet

We parked off Hwy 142 near Fisher Hill Rd, where a nice bridge crosses the Klickitat River.  It was on the colder side but a nice clear day!

We hiked north on the Klickitat River trail for five miles before needing to turn around, to get back to the car by sunset.  There were plenty of cars parked the Fisher Hill Rd. area but almost nobody on the trail.

On the way home we had some awesome views of Mt. Hood, and the sunset illuminating the Columbia River Gorge.  Such a nice day and hike! 🙂
