It’s another beautiful day with little wind. It’s cold under the canopy but too warm in the sun, but I loved both areas just the same! I didn’t initially expect to hike so far but found I had a nice pace and plenty of energy.
Everything was going so well up until I hit the 6.5 mile point. Then it happened, a sharp pain on the heel of my right foot. I didn’t misstep, or slip or twist my ankle. Just a normal step that seemed to go beyond what my foot could take.
I’ve been experiencing Planters Fascitis for about one week now, and hadn’t had it in years. I had started a regimen of stretching, since I’m no stranger to this issue. I don’t know if this is simply just the pain from this malady or if I had a small rupture of the Planters Fascia? I walked another 4 miles, to get back to the trailhead, and had very little pain. There was obviously something wrong, and it feels different, but I’ll need to have this looked at. I don’t have the swelling and bruising associated with a rupture but it doesn’t feel right. 😦
I decided not to hike on Thursday, to give my foot a rest, but have an appointment with my Orthopedist tomorrow. We’ll see what he has to say about continuing my hiking for the remainder of the year. It seems that every time one health issue resolves another one takes its place. Its definitely been a challenging year for injuries, but I’ll keep getting back up to continue the journey. 🙂
