Ridgefield Wildlife Refuge River S Unit Loop Hike with Kiwa Trail

Hike Distance: 5.5 miles      Yearly Hike Distance: 922.1 miles

Elevation Gain: 268 feet      Yearly Elevation Gain: 120116 feet

My son was in town and stayed an extra day, and took it off.  We decided to go hiking at the Ridgefield Wildlife Refuge in an area he hasn’t been before.  I’ve been here many times but he hadn’t.

It was the perfect clear day with mild temperatures.  We couldn’t have asked for a better time to walk around both the road and the Kiwa Trail.  There were plenty of cars driving around the loop but as usual very few walkers/hikers.  However, we did meet a few people that were birding and got had some nice conversations.  We did see plenty of birds, that we couldn’t identify.  We even heard about a Great Horned Owl, that was supposedly hunting but never saw it.  Unfortunately, I didn’t have the right lens to get pictures at such long distances. 😦

Truly a great time with my son!
