Whipple Creek Park Hike

Hike Distance: 6.3 miles      Yearly Hike Distance: 1175.9 miles

Elevation Gain: 860 feet      Yearly Elevation Gain: 158725 feet

So I’ve been a bit down since returning from my PCT backpack but really need to push myself out the door.  Getting out late really limits where I can go so I stayed local.

When I got to the parking area I was not in the best of moods, and the unleashed dog didn’t help.  There’s a strict requirement that all dogs must be on a leash, especially since there are people on horseback.  The horses can get spooked by dogs running around and County Parks are subject to a leash law.  After just starting the trail I got caught in a stagnant air area and it was filled with cigarette smoke.  I’m clueless why people would head out on a trail, where the air is refreshing and clean, and then suck in a cancer stick while walking.  I really don’t feel very sorry for the smoker(s) but most people that go on trails don’t want to suffocate in cigarette smoke while getting some fresh air.  Sorry for being on a soap box but it was that kind of day.

After those incidents things started getting better and I began to enjoy just being outside and getting some exercise.  I meandered around the park, in a somewhat counterclockwise loop.  During the hike I headed down to the Gazebo and was met by fresh blackberries that were there for the picking.  They were delicious and I had my fill! 🙂

I’m so glad I went out and I felt so much better after those few hours.  I shouldn’t second guess going for a hike in the future when I needed an emotional lift.
