Chelatchie Prairie RRT & Battleground Lake Hike

Hike Distance: 7.1 miles      Yearly Hike Distance: 1353.1 miles

Elevation Gain: 729 feet      Yearly Elevation Gain: 179175 feet

A beautiful sunny day and late start led me to hike this area.  As usual, I parked close to the pay station.  I always start this hike by heading to the Chelatchie Prairie Railroad Trail.  This is a two mile out-and-back linear trail that parallels a live railroad.  That said, I’ve never seen a train on these tracks, and don’t think it’s used often.

Once I got back to Battleground Lake I hiked the outer circumference of the trail system.  The beauty of this park is that the lake is usually crowded but the trail system is normally empty.  Today turned out to be such a day!

Next I hiked the loop trail around the upper perimeter of the lake.  Again, no people were seen!  When I got back to my car there were quite a few cars in the lot, but I didn’t care much since I was leaving to go home.  🙂
