Frenchmen’s Bar Regional Park Hike

Hike Distance: 6.5 miles      Yearly Hike Distance: 1609.3 miles

Elevation Gain: 228 feet      Yearly Elevation Gain: 211557 feet

Yet another visit to the Frenchmen’s Bar area and a beautiful hike around the area.  I meandered around the trail system for a few hours and touched just about all the trails available in this park.  My favorite area is walking along the Columbia River and looking out over the water.  I watched one of the cargo ships swing around and face the opposite direction, but don’t know why they do this.  The stern seemed quite close to the shore where I would have thought the water wasn’t deep enough, but I’m obviously wrong.

There were plenty of migrating birds overhead, and I took a few pictures.  Many of these birds winter in the open grasslands around the park, but the hunters are lying in wait this time of year.  There are some conservation lands around this park and they have been building large berms around the periphery of the property.  I suspect that they want to isolate the birds from the cars and people on the trails that might disturb them, while they’re on the ground.

A very nice cool and cloudy day!
