First hike of the new year and already we’re off to a sad start. We should have been leaving for vacation tomorrow morning but my wife’s father is in very poor health and she needs to visit him; possibly for the last time. 😦 Life is so fragile and short, and we must concentrate on the little daily things that bring us joy.
It was very cold and the mood was surreal, with heavy fog at the beginning of the hike. I made this hike short due to my SI back issue getting worse. In fact, after the hike my back was in such pain that it felt as if the cortisone shot had completely worn off. Thankfully, I see the physical therapist, for the first time, next Monday. It will probably take some time to get my back stabilized and the hiking back to normal (whatever normal is).
So as I was saying, I spent much time taking pictures, since the mood was fantastic. I even saw some river otters playing in one of the ponds, but my smartphone hasn’t the ability to zoom close enough for a good picture. It was very crowded but there were still some areas less frequented by people. It was also amazing to see that all the dogs were on a leash, and was a pleasant surprise!
Happy New Year to everyone and wishing you all a great year!
