Minto-Brown Island Park is a 1200 acre park within the city limits of Salem, Oregon.  There are about 19 miles of trails within the park boundaries, and some are paved and some dirt covered.  To say this park has massive outdoor opportunities would be an understatement.  There is something here for just about everyone, and is family friendly (I’d still watch my kids in many areas)!

Today we went with several friends, and physical injuries required that we choose a location that was fairly level, and the distance could be adjusted for how we felt.  An incredibly sunny and bluebird day made this a spectacular event.  However, the wind made it feel bitterly cold, and we had to keep moving or risk getting chilled.

The trail system here is full of signs, and maps, and you could still get lost due to the large size of this park (1200 acres is about two square miles!).  We essentially did a figure eight loop with one loop being a much large size than the other.  The crowds were extensive but dissipated quickly when away from the parking areas.

There are extensive views of ponds, creeks, and the Willamette River.  I will not hesitate to come back here!  This is one of the best city parks I’ve ever seen and is worthy of a visit.  Being with friends made this an even better experience, and we had a fantastic time. 🙂
