Frenchmen’s Bar Area Hike

Hike Distance: 5.2 miles      Yearly Hike Distance: 358.9 miles

Elevation Gain: 395 feet      Yearly Elevation Gain: 39769 feet

I’m back to using a 4mm thick shoe insert after getting used to the 3mm thickness.  That said, I’m still having SI/back pain and my Orthopedist has ordered an MRI for my entire hip!  The MRI is tomorrow night.

It’s a beautiful day with clear skies and gale force winds.  Yes, that’s right, gale force winds!  When the wind is this fierce stay away from trees and head for more open spaces, where something can’t fall on me. haha  Frenchmen’s Bar is a safe enough place to go under these conditions.  I really felt like strolling along the shoreline anyway, so this fits the bill.

I did my usual meandering and first walked along the dike.   Brutal winds were blowing while on the dike and I was being pummeled.  I also forgot my hiking sticks so it was more difficult being stable on my feet.  However, the view of the Cascades is best from the dike, and it was a four volcano visibility day (Mt. St. Helens, Mt. Rainier, Mt. Adams and Mt. Hood)!  I could barely take the pictures as I had to look into the wind. 😦

Once I got off the dike, and along the Columbia River shoreline, the wind was much less fierce.  Many factors made it better but I was just happy to be away from the gusts.  The remainder of the hike was along the shoreline and on the northern trails.  A wonderful day and just what I needed. 🙂
