Whipple Creek Regional Park Hike

Hike Distance: 5.9 miles      Yearly Hike Distance: 376.5 miles

Elevation Gain: 742 feet      Yearly Elevation Gain: 41067 feet

The day of reckoning has come and the results are about the best I could hope for! 🙂  I have NO stress fracture but I do have mild osteoarthritis in both SI joints.  This was expected for my age but Dr. Kaluza isn’t concerned about this.  I also have some a tear in a tendon, but this doesn’t affect the issue with my back, and obviously not my hiking.  There were no other issues identified by the MRI, and that’s fantastic, considering it can see just about everything in my lower torso. 🙂

Dr. Kaluza is very pleased with the results and feels I don’t need to see another doctor to analyze my SI joint.  He feels the main cause of my SI joint/lower back pain is the leg length difference.  It was also noted that he can tell the leg lifts are working as my hip and back have changed, in a positive way, since I started wearing them!   I was instructed to insert 4mm leg lifts in ALL my shoes and then wait two weeks.  After two weeks I need to do two consecutive day hikes, one with 4mm lifts and the next day with a 5mm lift.  I should then compare how I feel and then increase the height in all my shoes if the additional thickness makes a difference.   Dr. Kaluza then manipulated my back and we talked about our next meetup in three weeks.  I now have no restrictions on my hiking!!!!  What a relief that things are working out for the better, and just in time for spring and summer! 🙂

I got out very late from the doctor’s office and went home to have lunch.  The doctor’s office is also about 45 minutes away, in Oregon, but is worth the drive for an expert.  Since I started out very late I stayed close to home, and Whipple Creek is the go-to place.

Despite saying I wouldn’t cut any ivy, I spent time cutting more of this nasty invasive plant.  The best part of the hike was seeing huge amounts of Trillium flowers.  This flower is an early bloomer and is one of the first signs of spring.  I took plenty of pictures and present the two best photos below.  There were also some trees starting to flower.  A truly nice day, although I felt very weak in my lower back and legs, from the morning back manipulation by Dr. Kaluza.
