Frenchmen’s Bar Area Hike

Hike Distance: 5.8 miles      Yearly Hike Distance: 491.3 miles

Elevation Gain: 296 feet      Yearly Elevation Gain: 54540 feet

It was supposed to rain quite a bit but it turned out to be drizzle for most of the day. I started the hike late and was just going to do a five mile little loop around Frenchman’s Bar but it didn’t turn out quite as expected. First I walked along the dike and I saw the Columbia Land Trust, the private land next to Frenchmen’s Bar,  planting shrubs and other plants along their border.

When I went down to see the beach there was none. The Columbia River had to have risen 6 to 8 feet from the previous two weeks, obviously from all the rain we’ve had. So I ended up hiking everything I could at Frenchman’s Bar and then hiked along the Frenchman’s Bar Trail for short-distance. I did notice that there are plenty of osprey nests everywhere, and that was encouraging to see.
