Forest Road Hike in Southern Washington Cascades

Hike Distance: 8.2 miles      Yearly Hike Distance: 780.6 miles

Elevation Gain: 1397 feet      Yearly Elevation Gain: 92196 feet

It looked like it was going to be a cool day but the sun has burned off the clouds and it’s now hot, humid and hazy. The number of irises In Bloom out here is astounding. It’s probably in the thousands that I’m seeing and just spectacular!

So far I’ve been lucky enough to be buzzed by a hummingbird and then I ran into a deer! I froze in place and was able to get a few photos, while it looked on to see if I was a threat. It’s always a real treat to run into wildlife, and still be able to catch photos before they run.

It looks like there’s a thunderstorm building just north of me and looks pretty spooky. It’s hard to tell if this will move my way but I’m not prepared for a full onslaught of rain, lightning and wind.  I turned around and headed back the three miles to my car.  It was fortunate that only a few raindrops fell on the way back. 🙂
