Forest Road Hike in NW Oregon

Hike Distance: 7,5 miles      Yearly Hike Distance: 1002.5 miles

Elevation Gain: 1333 feet      Yearly Elevation Gain: 126239 feet

Wanting to stay somewhat close to home we decided upon a walk on a forest road in NW Oregon close to the town of St. Helens.  Nothing terribly special about this area other than it’s in a new area for us.  A very contorted maze of roads but we were able to make a small loop.  Staying close meant we got home before the fireworks started, which was the original goal!  A very nice day. 🙂

I’m elated that I’ve been able to exceed 1000 miles, this early in the year, given my back issues!  My back has been doing much better with the leg lifts I’ve been using.  I’m now using an 8mm insert in my right shoe, but may have to go even thicker.  Not all my back pain is gone but it is reduced substantially from the past years.  So much so that I have no fear about going backpacking this summer, and many hikes I’m completely pain free. 🙂  The main issue I’m having is finding hiking shoes that will accommodate these thick inserts without causing rubbing on the top of my foot.  I’ve already had to return two pairs of shoes that won’t work. 😦  Still, the solution to my SI back issue is amazing, and it’s greatly improved the quality of my hiking. 🙂
