Update: I forgot to mention that while driving to the trailhead that we saw a bear run across the forest road. Probably about 150 – 200 pounds, but lean, and moving quickly! Exciting to see as it’s rare for us to observe one. 🙂
Another attempt at some Trail Magic in southern Indian Heaven Wilderness. We met a total of six section hikers but no thru-hikers, and all were hiking through Washington State, and NOBO! One section hiker, named “Spitwalker” completed the PCT in 2013, and had come back to relive his Washington experience. He seemed to be immune to mosquitoes as we were being attacked and they left him alone. haha We also got a picture of Sophia and Jens, who had some time off to hike through Washington! The PCT on the southern 4.5 miles of Indian Heaven was in excellent shape, and kudos to whomever cleaned it up! However, the mosquitoes were like flying hypodermic needles, and very aggressive. Not unexpected, and our Insect Shield clothing, along with a head net and Picardin was extremely effective. Just don’t stop to go to the washroom. haha No snow, and there was plenty of water in the lakes. The first water is about 1.5-2 miles north of NF-60, at Sheep Lake! The seasonal streams were unfortunately dried up.
