Backpacking Trip Around Timothy Lake, Oregon Day 2

Hike Distance: 6.8 miles      Yearly Hike Distance: 1040.2 miles

Elevation Gain: 1232 feet      Yearly Elevation Gain: 130899 feet

We were woken up from a very light sleep to the sounds of Coyotes howling.  The Coyotes were basically singing songs between each other, and it went on for a long time!  The howling was coming from about four locations, and it went on for about 20 minutes.  I tried recording it but it didn’t get picked up by my phone very well. 😦

I drifted back to sleep for a few more hours, but it still wasn’t a very good sleep.  My son had a bit of an accident, and I’ll explain.  We both have what we call Pee bottles with us in the tent.  Truthfully, we don’t want to leave the tent in the middle of the night to relieve ourselves, so we have sealable bottles with us that are emptied in the morning.  Let’s just say that the bottle he had  was defective, and it leaked out all night!  What a mess, and I won’t take this discussion further.

After waking my son indicating his stomach wasn’t doing very well.  He has had an issue for a couple days so it wasn’t the filtered water.  His stomach issues persisted the entire day and it made for a less than pleasant hike back to our car.  I felt really bad for him but there wasn’t much we could do while out here.

I was actually feeling pretty good, although tired from a poor night’s sleep.  I took an energy gel to perk me up and it did a good job!  We made our way back around the lake and stopped at a few locations to take pictures.  When we got to the southern side of Timothy Lake the views of Mt. Hood became amazing!  I took plenty of pictures but we didn’t stay long due to my son’s stomach.

The hike on the south side of Timothy Lake became a death march for my son, and I felt so bad.  The hike seemed to never end and I wanted to get back to the car so we could drive home.  It’s too bad things didn’t work out better as it was a gorgeous clear day with very comfortable temperatures, and amazing views.  We got back to the car and drove home immediately.  My son’s feeling a bit better but at least he’s in the comfort of home!  A rough second day but there were some wonderful moments. 🙂
