Forest Road Hike

Today is my birthday and I’m now 62 years old!  I feel pretty good but it feels like the years have gone by quickly.  I can now collect Social Security, but won’t be doing that for a while.  The best part is that I can now obtain a Lifetime Senior Pass for all Federal Lands. 🙂  I applied for one on line, and plan to use it often!  It covers all National Parks, Wildlife Refuges, and is used for the federal lands forest pass, for the remainder of my life, and all for a one time fee of $80!!!  I’m stoked. 🙂

I couldn’t let a birthday, with gorgeous weather, get by without a hike.  I just went to a forest road area that I frequent occasionally and meandered around.  I’ve converted from my Gregory day pack to a Zpacks backpack, and tried it out today, and was pleased.  Unfortunately, I forgot my hiking poles, and this was a big problem given that the forest roads are gravel covered, and are best hiked with some support.  I forgot my camera and couldn’t really get great pictures of snow-capped Mt. St. Helens and Mt. Hood. 😦

Despite having forgotten so many hiking poles and camera, I really enjoyed this short hike.  It was a coolish day, which made it nice for hiking.  I have also been wearing my orange jacket since it’s hunting season.  Be careful out there during hunting season and stay visible!  I didn’t see anyone hiking the roads, and only one family in a vehicle. 🙂
