Champoeg State Park Hike to Butteville Historic Store & Beyond

Hike Distance: 8.5 miles      Yearly Hike Distance: 1700.6 miles

Elevation Gain: 663 feet      Yearly Elevation Gain: 221444 feet

My SI joint on my back has been bothering me again, and my doctor has again told me to add another 1mm to my shoe lift.  I’m now adding a 10mm lift to all my shoes.  I’m hoping this gets rid of my back pain, but I’m not very optimistic.  I can only add 1mm more of thickness before I start causing problems to my right SI joint, so there’s not much left that can be done, except Prolo-therapy, which has a hit rate of about 50%. 😦

I only mention this update because today was the first day of using a 10mm lift/insert in my right shoe, and the pain for today’s hike was awful.  My back didn’t hurt at first, but halfway through the hike the pain came upon me and only increased from there.

We parked just off Champoeg road and started hiking directly to the Historical Butteville Store.  The store was built in 1863 and there’s a nice museum inside!  It’s about a three miles, one way, with minimal elevation gain.  There were some people at the park but it was relatively sparse.  We got to the store, but it was closed for the season.  It’s too bad because they have ice cream I like, and they have quite a variety of food.

We had a snack and headed back north on the trail system.  We then hiked along a nature trail, that had a few places to explore.  Views of the Willamette River were mostly obscured by trees but I did get a few nice photos.  I’d rave about the views of the Willamette River but it’s mostly of the high-end homes that line the shore.  The river is very nice and I still enjoyed the views.  There are also some nice views of the hills behind the river, closer to the parking lot, though!

We wound around and explored the trail system a bit more before returning to our car.  We had to be back by 4:30pm, as the park closed then.  A very nice day and definitely worth the drive there. 🙂
